Student Life

Architecture students on site as part of summer course in Spain

The Oxbridge classroom isn’t limited to one room or building.  Every Oxbridge course is designed to make the most of the extraordinary resources of the great cities in which the programs are taking place, so that students discover the city through the course and the course through the city.  On any given day, the classroom might be a local museum, a research lab or hospital, the market square, or a nearby park. Some days, the teacher’s expertise is supplemented by discussions, workshops, and demonstrations run by vising guest speakers. This variety in both venue and content delivery are core to our academic philosophy and contribute to an interactive and immersive environment.

Oxbridge in Salamanca includes a full calendar of extracurricular activities that enable students to immerse themselves in the community and in Spanish culture.

The Oxbridge team organizes guided visits to all the city’s many historic marvels, including the Old and New Cathedrals, the Museo Art Nouveau y Art Deco Casa Lis, and the Museo de la Historia de la Automocion. They also visit the Cueva de Salamanca—supposedly inhabited by the Devil—and enjoy boating expeditions on the Douro.

Alongside field trips to the historic city of Segovia and Spanish capital Madrid, activities like flamenco classes, soccer tournaments, jamon-cutting demonstrations, and tapas-cooking lessons, not to mention talks from Universidad de Salamanca experts, keep students busy.

Although no week on an Oxbridge program is “typical”, the below provides a general overview of a week in the life of a Oxbridge in Salamanca student.
