About Salamanca

Located in the hills along the Tormes River, Salamanca is a bustling city with a vibrant student population. The Plaza Mayor is a central feature of Salamanca; this stunning plaza features baroque architecture and popular spots where locals love to shop, eat, and socialize. While the city is nicknamed "La Dorada" or "The Golden One" - a reference to its ancient sandstone buildings which appear to glow – it is also known as the City of Spanish Language. In the 15th century, the first book dedicated to the rules of Spanish was published in Salamanca and today, it still attracts thousands of international students eager to strengthen their grasp of the language.
