Few cities can begin to match Paris. A center of learning and political power from the Middle Ages onwards, Paris became Europe and the world’s cultural epicenter in the late 17th century. The city invented the haute-cuisine that defines culinary excellence to this day, and invented the haute-couture for which it is justly celebrated. At the same time, Parisian artists, academics, and intellectuals, dreamed up ideas and movements that conquered the world and still define our tastes, thoughts, and beliefs. Alongside, the city accrued the greatest art collections in the world, and some of the most remarkable monuments, which many of our students use as the bases for their studies.
