Student Life

Students hold up Oxbridge balloons in Oxford grassy grounds

The Oxbridge classroom isn’t limited to one room or building.  Every Oxbridge course is designed to make the most of the extraordinary resources of the great cities in which the programs are taking place, so that students discover the city through the course and the course through the city.  On any given day, the classroom might be a local museum, a research lab or hospital, the market square, or a nearby park. Some days, the teacher’s expertise is supplemented by discussions, workshops, and demonstrations run by vising guest speakers. This variety in both venue and content delivery are core to our academic philosophy and contribute to an interactive and immersive environment.

When not in class, students are free to take advantage of Oxford. Should they wish to do so, they can choose from a plethora of activities especially designed by our team to immerse them in the city and its cultural life. We organize guest lectures by eminent academics; tours of different colleges; guided visits of the great museums and sites, including the Ashmolean, Pitt Rivers, and the Bodleian; and concert and theater nights.

Alongside the high culture, students have the opportunity to take learn how to punt, to take part in yoga sessions, or even to be introduced to Oxford pastimes such as cricket and croquet. The program ends with a formal dinner.

Although no week on an Oxbridge program is “typical”, the below provides a general overview of a week in the life of The Oxford Summer Seminars student.
