L’Académie de France | Student Life

Each day is a balance of classes, activities, and free time guided by the principle that students always have something interesting to do. At various points in the day, students can choose to join a field trip or activity, play sports, or use free time for independent study, relaxation, or adventure. Students are free to explore the city in small groups without adult supervision during the day, but staff are available at all times to accompany student groups and help ensure that Paris and Montpellier are welcoming, safe, and accessible.

A typical day of a student:
7:45 - 8:45 Breakfast
9:00 - 12:30

Major class: each class begins with a ‘Home Room’ – the teacher makes announcements, notifies students of the day’s activities, answers general questions, and helps students to settle into their routine

12:30 - 2:00 Lunch: options include local cafés, restaurants, and take-out stands, offering a wide variety of familiar and traditional meals
2:00 - 4:00 Minor Class (three days per week).
4:00 - 6:30 Elective activities and walking tours; guided excursions to museums, special exhibitions, historic sites, and other
attractions; a daily choice of sports; free time to read, relax, complete projects, and explore
6:30 Dinner in the cafeteria
Evenings A varying program of films, plays, concerts, and guest speakers with plenty of opportunities for socializing and spending time with new friends, as well as completing homework
10:00 - 11:00 Check-in at the residence
Midnight All students in their own rooms, quiet

Note: Sundays are more leisurely, with time for outings, rest, and relaxation.

ACCOMMODATION.

Rooms are simple and comfortable. In Montpellier, rooms are single or double. All rooms have space for studying and the schools have larger common areas where students can work together. Students are furnished with a bed (linen provided), a dresser or wardrobe and a desk and a chair. There are shared bathroom facilities on the hallway. Students in both programs must bring their own towels.

MEALS.

Students enjoy a buffet-style breakfast and dinner in the residence cafeteria. Breakfast is continental-style with choices such as cereal, fruit, yogurt, cheese, and bread. On the weekends, special items such as croissants and pains au chocolat are served. Dinner in France includes several entree options, including a vegetarian option, fruit and vegetables, fresh baguettes, a cheese course, and dessert. Lunch is at each student’s discretion and provides an opportunity to sample the cuisine at various restaurants, to grab a delicious crêpe nearby, or to people-watch from local cafés. On one special night we arrange dinner out for our students, with their Major teachers, at an authentic French restaurant.
