Each day is a balance of classes, activities, and free time guided by the principle that students always have something interesting to do. At various points in the day, students can choose to join a field trip or activity, play sports, or use free time for independent study, relaxation, or adventure. Students are free to explore the city in small groups without adult supervision during the day, but staff are available at all times to accompany student groups and help ensure that Barcelona is welcoming, safe, and accessible.
| A typical day of a student: | |
| 7:30 - 8:45 | Breakfast |
| 9:00 - 12:30 | Major classes. Each major begins with a ‘Home Room’ – the teacher makes announcements, notifies students of the day’s activities, answers general questions, and helps students to settle into their routine |
| 12:30 - 3:00 | Lunch. Options include local cafés, restaurants, and take-out stands, offering a wide variety of familiar and traditional meals; after lunch students have free time for relaxing and socializing |
| 3:00 - 5:00 | Minor Class. Three days per week |
| 5:00 - 6:30 | Elective activities and walking tours; guided excursions to museums; a daily choice of sports; free time to read, relax, complete projects, and explore |
| 6:30 - 7:30 | Dinner in the cafeteria |
| Evenings | Concerts, theater, films, evening walks, guest speakers, socializing with new friends, time for homework |
| 10:00 - 11:00 | Check-in at the residence |
| Midnight | All students in their own rooms, quiet |
Note: Sundays are more leisurely, with time for outings, rest, and relaxation.
ACCOMMODATION.
All rooms are simple and comfortable doubles. The rooms have space for studying and the schools have larger common areas where students can work together. Students are furnished with a bed (linen provided), a dresser or wardrobe and a desk and a chair. All rooms have a private toilet and shower shared by two people. Students in both programs must bring their own towels.
MEALS.
Students enjoy a buffet-style breakfast and dinner in the residence cafeteria. Breakfast is continental-style with choices such as cereal, fruit, yogurt, cheese, and bread. Dinner is a variety of American cuisine and regional foods, including a vegetarian option, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, and dessert. Lunch is at each student’s discretion and provides an opportunity to sample the cuisine at various restaurants, to grab a delicious bocadillo nearby, or to people-watch from local cafés.
