THE RESIDENCE. La Academia de Barcelona is housed in Residència Universitària Josep Manyanet which is located in Les Corts, an upscale residential district of Barcelona. The area is known for its fashionable lifestyle and the lovely tapas restaurants that decorate every corner.
This recently constructed residence houses University of Barcelona students during the academic year with double occupancy rooms and en suite bathroom facilities (no private rooms are available). The whole building is air-conditioned. Students have access to a gym, tennis and basketball courts, and on-site coin-operated laundry facilities.
STAFF AND SUPERVISION. All programs have central offices open daily from 8:00am until midnight where students can seek advice and answers to their questions. The Program Director and residential staff members live in the same residence as the students, ensuring availability and care around the clock.
All rooms are simple, comfortable doubles and have a private toilet and shower. The rooms have space for studying, and there are larger common areas where students can work together. Rooms are furnished with a bed (linens provided), a dresser or wardrobe, and a desk and chair. Students must bring their own towels.
MEALS. Students enjoy a buffet-style breakfast and dinner in the residence cafeteria. Breakfast is continental-style with choices such as cereal, fruit, yogurt, cheese, and bread. Dinner is a variety of standard cuisines and regional foods, including a vegetarian option, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, and dessert. Lunch is at each student's discretion and provides an opportunity to sample the cuisine at various restaurants, grab a sandwich or bocadillo nearby, or dine in local cafés.
COLLEGE FACILITIES. Beyond the classrooms and dining hall, students have the use of a common room for socializing and watching television or movies. There are on-site public telephones and message boards, and students collect their mail daily from the Program Office.
